A blank notebook is great for venting. It's terrible for thinking through whether to hire the contractor or drop the client. Claude is the second brain that asks the questions you've been avoiding.
Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. You can run it in a browser, on the desktop app, or on your phone. You type; it reads, drafts, summarizes, and reasons through whatever you put in front of it. Paste in a lease. Upload a 40-page customer survey. Open a long thread about a hiring decision you keep stalling on. Free gives you limited messages a day. Pro at $20 a month opens the limits wide enough for daily use.
Picture the Sunday night problem at a kitchen table somewhere in Jacksonville. A contractor's proposal you don't fully trust. A price hike from your supplier. A quiet question about whether to keep the part-time hire through Q4. You don't need a fast answer. You need a thinking partner who won't get tired before you do.
Paste each document into a fresh chat. Ask Claude to translate the proposal into plain English. Have it list the questions you should be asking the supplier before you accept the price hike. Talk through the hiring call out loud. Forty minutes later, Monday is a different morning.
"You're my business advisor. I run a [type of business]. Ask me the three questions you'd want answered before giving me advice on [problem]."Claude won't browse the live web by default; it knows the world as of its training cutoff plus whatever you paste in. It also won't remember last Tuesday's conversation. Each chat is a fresh slate unless you bring the context yourself. And it won't decide for you. It will lay out the trade-offs, surface the question you've been ducking, and pressure-test your reasoning. The call still belongs to you.
How is Claude different from ChatGPT?
Same kinds of tasks, different defaults. Claude tends to ask clarifying questions before charging into an answer, holds longer conversations without losing the thread, and pushes back when your logic is thin. ChatGPT is often faster to a first draft. Use both for what each does best; you don't have to pick one.
Is the free plan good enough, or do I need Pro?
Yes, until it isn't. Free is plenty for a few decisions a week and the occasional uploaded document. The day you start opening Claude before your second cup of coffee is the day Pro at $20 a month pays for itself. Higher daily limits and access to the latest models follow you across the workday.
Is my business data safe?
Anthropic does not train its models on consumer chats by default. That's more than you can say for most free tools. Treat it like any other AI: don't paste anything you wouldn't email to a trusted accountant. For client work under NDA, check the Anthropic privacy page before pasting.
